BUSINESS LAB · EVIDENCE BEFORE TACTICS

How should I reply when someone asks “how much?” on WhatsApp?

Answer the price question transparently, explain what the price includes and help the buyer understand the suitable option. Ask one question that changes your recommendation and offer one clear next step. Do not withhold a known price to force a conversation or assume silence means a discount is required.

Give the answer the buyer asked for

If a fixed price is known, state it with the relevant inclusions and conditions. If the service genuinely depends on scope, explain the missing variable and how the quotation will be determined. Avoid an evasive sequence of questions that hides a straightforward answer.

For several options, recommend an available one and say why it fits. A long list without guidance can leave the buyer unable to compare value or understand the next step.

Ask one useful question

A question about use, quantity, delivery or the problem can help distinguish options. Ask only what affects the recommendation. Respect the customer’s time and do not collect personal data unrelated to the enquiry.

A hypothetical retail reply is: “This option is $100 including delivery. It suits X. Will you use it for X or Y?” The price is an illustration, not a Business Lab offer or a claim about an existing client.

Offer a voluntary next step and learn

Once the buyer has context, explain the practical next step: viewing details, confirming scope or placing an order. Make delivery, timing and any important terms clear. Follow up with useful information if appropriate and stop when asked.

Review a small set of real conversations and outcomes before changing the price. If unsuitable enquiries dominate, inspect the audience and promise. If suitable customers misunderstand the scope, test clearer communication. Track contribution as well as purchases so a discount does not conceal weaker economics.

Frequently asked questions

What if the price depends on scope?

Explain which scope variable matters and what information is needed to quote. Do not invent a fixed fee.

Should I offer a discount immediately?

Not by default. Check the actual objection, customer fit, value and economics first.

What if the buyer does not reply?

Use a relevant, respectful follow-up if appropriate. Silence alone does not establish the cause.
